Music Ministry
Musically accompanied singing has always been an indispensable part of the
worship of the people of God. The choice and presentation of songs plays a very
important part in creating the mood for worship and helping people to connect
with their God in meaningful ways. We acknowledge that song preferences are many
and varied.
At St Mary's we use some of the old hymns and early renewal and scripture in
song music. Predominantly, we use songs which were written post 1990. Amongst
these are an increasing body of songs of New Zealand origin.
We are constantly adding to our song list. We
welcome your suggestions of new songs which have touched your heart, especially
those that are modern.
Playing an instrument and singing in the music group on Sundays is encouraged.
If you can do either, or both, please discuss this with Marg Alve - our music
leader - using the contact form.
Our
music is accompanied variously by an electronic keyboard, acoustic and
occasionally electronic or base guitar, flute, electronic drums and a singing
group. Some Sundays all are there while on others we may use only the electronic
keyboard.
During 2005 we graduated from using an overhead projector to provide song words
to using a data projector. Very occasionally we will use a printed sheet or song
book to sing from.
Check HERE for the index of worship songs used at St
Mary's. The data projector column indicates songs sung on Sundays since late
2005.
